Chapter XIII

SWAMIJI’S GRACE – BABA’S KINDNESS

“If Goddess Saraswathi, writes for eternity Even then, the virtues of Sai’s grace will not be reached”

On June 29, 2004, a group of more than 150 devotees under the able guidance of a staunch Sai devotee, Sri Vijay Mehta, was going to Shirdi to have Baba’s darshan, especially on Guru Poornima Day, the 2nd of July. This humble devotee’s name was also included in the group. So this atma from June 1st to June 17th was floating in Sai atmosphere,
breathing Sai air every second, hoping that the darshan of Sri Sai Baba in Shirdi especially on Guru Poornima Day would kindle his soul for enlightenment.

But on the 17th night, the atma guru of this soul, Saipadananda Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji, gave him darshan of Swamiji himself doing abhisheka in Shirdi to the celestial moorthy of Sai Baba, who is protecting His devotees from the tomb even after His Mahasamadhi 86 years ago His superhuman nature. The devotee has no words to vivify Swamiji’s darshan and was also puzzled as to why Swamiji gave him such a darshan on that day.

Surprisingly, on 18th June, baba turned the table and played a volte-face on the devotee. As 7 p.m., there was a phone call saying, “Mama, Shirdi streets are in disarray, debris, accumulated on the demolition of buildings, give a picture of ups and downs, which any devotee would find it difficult to negotiate his way, with the danger of slipping into any ditch. Moreover on Guru Poornima Day, there would be heavy rush and no autos would be easily available. Also you have to reach the Samadhi Mandir from the rear end. So, considering your age and health, I appeal to you to cancel the trip”. The phone call abruptly ended. The devotee took it as an ‘asiri’ voice of Baba, forewarning this humble devotee of the impending difficulties. The devotee, therefore, cancelled the trip.

SOAKED IN SAI IMAGE

All through the period, of June 29 to July 4, when the devotees were expected to return to Bangalore from Shirdi, this devotee was soaked in Sai image, saturated in His thought and steeped in Sai smaran.

True to Baba’s words to a devotee, “If you do nama japa saptaha, Lord Vittal will appear before you”, Baba, on the 6th day itself on 4th July – gave this devotee darshan at his doorsteps. One may ask how?

On the morning of July 4, when this devotee was about to start chanting Sahasranamam, he heard in a loud voice Shirdi song “Arathi Sai Baba” and was unable to find out from which direction the song was coming from. Finally, he opened the main door and before he could reach the road, two sadhus approached him saying “About 20 sadhus from Shirdi, taking the idol of Baba are going to Rameshwaram and gave two rudrakshas to this humble devotee. They had visited Baba temples in Malleswaram and Ulsoor and they are on this road now”.

As this road was a dead-end, they turned back the vehicle on which Baba was seated and had brought it just opposite the devotee’s house.

Besides Baba, there was a murthi of Ganapathi too. As the weather was very chill due to rains, they asked for a shawl from the devotee and protected Baba’s idol. Then, they did arati to Baba and gave udi Prasad to the devotee and it took a long time to recover from the thrill of Baba’s darshan.

The sadhus had made a tent-like structure on the pillion of the motor bike and covered it with plastic sheets. One could find Baba’s pictures all over the vehicle and it was a good darshan to the devotee without visiting Shirdi.

Thus, it is true that Sai and our Saipadananda are ever living in one’s heart. Sarva Karyeshu Sarvatha Sainatham Charanam Prapadhye.

Bless the hearth a-blazing there, With smoke ascending like a prayer.
Bless the folk who dwell within.... Keep them pure and free from sin.
Bless us all, that we may be, Fit O Lord to dwell with three.
Bless us all that one day we, May dwell O Lord with Thee.
